Things to Know Before Buying Menstrual Cups?
You picked up your bag and gave yourself a last look in the mirror. You were ready for the first day of school. You had picked the outfit at night and ironed it perfectly. Packed your bag and took out the accessories to wear. It was the first day at school, and you had to look perfect since you were running for the prom queen. You had to win it without rigging it this time.
With the light shade of lipstick, white shirt, and blue jeans, you walked downstairs. Bag on your one shoulder, you sat down on the couch and wore the sneakers you bought just a day before. They had a leather touch and went perfectly with the outfit.
“I’m leaving” You called out to your mom and left the house. Your friend’s car was outside waiting for you. She was more like a minion of yours rather than a friend. You walked towards her car, opened the passenger door, and sat inside.
“Hey,” She said, a big smile appeared on her face. You nodded at her and kept texting.
The ride to school went peaceful. She had surprisingly not said a word to you. Which you thought was quite shocking because she was a chatterbox. She parked the car in the parking lot, and you both stepped out.
“Do you mind coming to the restroom with me?” She asked. You raised your eyebrows at her.
“I have to go to sign up for the prom queen nominations,” You said, shutting the door of the car a little too loudly.
“It’s a girl problem. I need your help,” She said through gritted teeth. With a bored face, you walked in her direction. You both strode towards the entrance of the high school. People turned their heads to look at you. You smiled at everyone. To win, you had to be nice to everyone, even to your minions. With that big grin plastered on your face, you walked towards the restroom.
As the door opened, you muttered, “What is it?”
“I think I just got my period,” She said, worried. She took off the jacket she had wrapped around her waist, which you overlooked before. That perfect white mini skirt had stained in just a little span.
“Is it so bad?” You nodded your head.
“Do you have tampons?” She asked while turning her head, trying to look at her skirt.
“I don’t use tampons. I have ![menstrual cups in my bag,” You said as you looked inside your bag for one.
“I haven’t used one before.” She took it from your hand and inspected it up and down.
“They are a lot more comfortable and easier to use,” You said. With a genuine smile, you continued, “I can help you with it. Don’t worry; I will just go and get your gym clothes from the locker.” She thanked you. Leaving the restroom, you walked in the direction of her locker. You swore you weren’t being friendly because of the prom queen situation.
On returning to the restroom, you had to make sure that she knew a few things about these cups. Somethings that you had to find out the hard way.
“Don’t use tampons from now on,” You said. She raised her eyebrows in confusion. You explained to her the main reason behind it.
When choosing menstrual cups, a person is free from the risk of toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Toxic shock syndrome is a very rare and life-threatening illness caused by a certain type of bacteria entering your body. Tampons caused TSS, but when people started using menstrual cups, this problem was solved. Because menstrual cups don’t absorb the blood, so it doesn’t irritate your vaginal mucosal tissues, and the vaginal flora doesn’t get changed as well. This means that there is no growth of S. aureus - the bacteria that is responsible for TSS.

“You can even use the menstrual cup for up to 12 hours straight, and you won’t have to worry about any bacteria entering your bloodstream.” You told her. The restroom was locked to give her plenty of privacy. You stood in the bathroom as she changed in the room.
“You can also so many dollars by using these”
“How is that possible?” She asked. With so much patience you never knew you had you explained to her how they were money-saving products.
Menstrual cups hold the period fluid up to 12 hours. They are reusable if taken proper care of them. Tampons can’t be used again once used, whereas menstrual cups are the total opposite of them. They will save you from spending too many dollars and will save your late-night emergency trips to the stores as well.
You explained to her how to use these. Her face looked like she could throw up at any moment.
“Just don’t panic. Do as I say it would be okay” You mustered those words to her. You knew it was the most common thing. Even you went into a panic phase when you first tried them.
The first-time users may have a difficult time adjusting to them. It’s a cup that goes in your vaginal opening, but with time people get used to it. You had read a blog on a menstrual cup that they can get lost in your vagina and, if removed wrong, can disturb the small thread of your IUD. You knew nothing like that ever happened.
Only if the person’s flow is heavy, the menstrual cup can go a little farther in your vagina, but it won’t get stuck there or go somewhere it shouldn’t go. You learned the hard way that if that happens, you just have to use your Kegel muscles to push the cup back down until you can get a grip of the tip of the menstrual cup.
You guided her the whole time, and when she came out, she looked much relaxed.
“See, I told you it wasn’t that scary.” You said, giving her an assuring smile. You continued, “Just remember the things I told you before buying these cups.” She nodded, and you both walked off in the direction of your first class.
